Cooperations are often necessary to remain competitive, especially in the airline industry. In Russia AUSTRIAN opted for cooperations with Transport Clearing House (TCH), a clearing house which guarantees the remittance of revenues created by travel agencies, and the Russian distribution system Sirena-Travel. The Austrian carrier thereby enlarged its indirect distribution network by 6 500 agencies in Russia. Moreover, AUSTRIAN entered into a strategic alliance with AiRUnion, an alliance of five Russian carriers. In this thesis the risks and opportunities for AUSTRIAN regarding the cooperations mentioned above are analysed. For that purpose information from different kind of sources such as books, articles, internet, but also from expert interviews is included.
